This Grandparent Thing

This grandparent thing is quite surprising,
I didn't think the rumors could be true,
The remarkable affect that a little trusting loving person,
Can have on you.

The way you feel is almost painful, to
Love a little one who loves you so.
The way you feel is something you have heard about,
But did not think could actually be so.

I suppose it matters to be older and a little wiser,
Seeing life from this point of view,
But to have a little one just carry you away,
Who knew it could be true?

Just as you begin to feel mortality,
Along comes a little star so bright,
So much room for happiness, so absolutely beautiful,
For sure a shining light.

This grandparent thing is quite surprising,
I am so surprised at how I feel,
Another little loving human being in my life,
And it does seem to be real.
