Big Controversy
Big controversy today about a women track star,
Is she a woman or is she not?
Looking very masculine in the pictures in the papers,
Women's characteristics? Not a lot.
Everybody thinks she should be running with the men, with her
Flat chest, strong muscles and short hair.
Women runners getting angry at this champion runner,
Women say it isn't fair.
Looking very masculine and not the usual female runner
We've gotten used to seeing.
Looking for the world like a slim and muscular boy,
Like a teenage boy most are agreeing.
Alas there seems to be a broad gray area between the sexes where
Gender identity is not so clear.
And in the world of women's running this becomes a major issue,
Not easily resolved I fear.
This controversy does put women's running in the headlines
Puts everyone on the spot,
It gets disagreeable, invasive, and uncomfortable, de-
ciding who's a woman, who is not.
